VOXL ESC FPV 4-in-1 with Built-in Power Module (MDK-M0138)
VOXL FPV Racing 4-in-1 ESC (M0138)
Product Description
The M0138 is a high-performance 4-in-1 brushless ESC — four electronic speed controllers on one board, one per drone motor — built for demanding FPV drone applications across 5-inch, 7-inch and 10-inch airframes, using 100 A / 40 V MOSFETs and a board layout tuned for high current. It supports 100 A burst per channel and over 300 A total burst, and communicates with your flight controller over low-latency digital UART rather than analog PWM.
M0138 also acts as the drone's power hub: a dedicated regulated output powers VOXL 2 or Flight Core v2 with battery voltage and current monitoring in PX4, a switchable 16.8 V output powers a video transmitter, and a JST payload connector taps battery voltage. Designed, built and tested in the USA, NDAA '20 Section 848 compliant, and on the Blue UAS Framework list.
Targeted at 5-inch, 7-inch and 10-inch FPV drone motors and propellers with high current demands. Each of the four channels drives one three-phase brushless motor.
Product Specifications
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Power Input | 2-6S Li-Po (6-26 V), supports 6S LiHV. TVS protected, M3 plated through-holes |
| Performance | 100 A peak per motor (<1 s) 40 A continuous per motor (with sufficient airflow, application dependent) 300 A+ peak total board current (<1 s) |
| VOXL Power Output | 5.1 V (VOXL 2 variant) or 3.8 V (VOXL 2 Mini variant) from a 6 A-rated regulator |
| VTX Power Output | 16.8 V @ 500 mA, switchable on/off — passthrough if battery voltage is below 16.8 V |
| AUX Power Output | 3.3 V (default) or 5.0 V @ 500 mA, software-selectable and switchable |
| Payload Connector | Battery voltage on JST SM02B-SFHLS-TF, rated 4 A — downstream of the current shunt, so payload draw appears in battery-current telemetry |
| MCU | STM32F051K86 @ 48 MHz, 64 KB Flash |
| MOSFET Driver | MP6531 |
| MOSFETs | Infineon BSC022N04LS, 40 V N-channel |
| Current Sensing | 0.25 mOhm shunt with INA186, 200 A max sensing range (total current) |
| Temperature Sensing | 4x internal to MCU, 2x external (top and bottom of PCB) |
| ESD Protection | Yes, on UART and PWM I/O |
| Control Interface | Bi-directional UART up to 2 Mbit/s (3.3 VDC logic, 5.0 V tolerant), 4-pin JST GH |
| Board Dimensions | 45.5 mm x 59.0 mm |
| Mounting | 30.5 mm x 30.5 mm, M3 (3.05 mm) |
| Weight | 17.9 g (without wires) |
Operating range: 2S to 6S (6-26 V). Do not run this ESC on 7S or 8S packs. The 40 V component rating is design margin for transients, back-EMF and regenerative energy — it is not headroom for a higher cell count.
Software Features
- Closed-loop RPM control (commanded RPM), used by the PX4
voxl_escdriver - Open-loop control (commanded % power)
- Regenerative braking and smooth sinusoidal spin-up
- Real-time RPM, temperature, voltage and current feedback over UART
- Single Neopixel RGB LED output, up to 32 LEDs
- Two PWM output pins (50/200/400 Hz) on test points 0P and 3P — PWM input is not available on this board
- GPIO control of the VTX and AUX regulators (firmware 39.18 or later)
- Audible tone generation through the motors
- PX4 integration supported in 1.12 and later
Technical Details
These closed-loop RPM control ESCs require tuning for your specific motor and propeller combination. Tuning tools are available in the voxl-esc tools repository.
